The Sheffield International Concert Season returns for 2026/27, bringing another year of exceptional orchestras to Sheffield City Hall.

Now in its 94th year, the season continues a proud tradition of presenting some of the finest classical music from across the UK and around the world. Alongside six performances from resident orchestra the Hallé, this year’s programme welcomes internationally renowned ensembles including the Stuttgart Philharmonic, Taiwan Philharmonic and Czech National Symphony Orchestra, as well as festive favourites, celebrated choirs and spectacular film music.

Hallé Orchestra - Friday, 25 September 2026

The season opens in spectacular style as the Hallé Orchestra and Principal Conductor Kahchun Wong return with a programme of orchestral brilliance. Sir Stephen Hough performs Beethoven's majestic "Emperor" Piano Concerto, alongside Liszt's dramatic Les préludes and Stravinsky's dazzling Firebird Suite.

Nicholas Collon leads the Hallé through a richly atmospheric programme featuring Szymanowski's Violin Concerto No.2, performed by Hallé leader Emily Davis, and Rachmaninov's powerful Third Symphony.

 

Stuttgart Philharmonic - Thursday, 19 November 2026

Making their Sheffield debut, the Stuttgart Philharmonic are joined by acclaimed pianist Jeneba Kanneh-Mason for Mozart's Piano Concerto No.20, alongside Mendelssohn's evocative Hebrides Overture and Sibelius' magnificent Fifth Symphony.

 

Manchester Camerata & Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus - Saturday, 5 December 2026

A festive season highlight as the Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus joins Manchester Camerata, a distinguished cast of soloists and conductor Laurence Cummings for Handel's timeless masterpiece, Messiah.

 

Christmas Concert - Saturday, 12 December 2026

Join the Black Dyke Band, Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus and Sheffield Youth Choirs for a sparkling seasonal celebration hosted by BBC Look North presenter Amy Garcia. Featuring festive favourites, audience carols and Christmas classics, this much-loved annual event is the perfect way to start the festive season.

 

Royal Northern Sinfonia - Thursday, 28 January 2027

Royal Northern Sinfonia marks the 200th anniversary of Beethoven's death with a thrilling performance of his Seventh Symphony. The programme also features Stravinsky's vibrant Danses concertantes and Hummel's virtuosic Trumpet Concerto performed by Matilda Lloyd.

Kahchun Wong returns to conduct Mahler's monumental Fifth Symphony and Rachmaninov's dazzling Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, featuring internationally acclaimed pianist Alexei Volodin.

Hallé Orchestra - Thursday, 29 April 2027

Norwegian violin virtuoso Henning Kraggerud joins the Hallé for Bruch's beloved Violin Concerto, alongside Tchaikovsky's dramatic Fourth Symphony and Missy Mazzoli's contemporary masterpiece Sinfonia (for Orbiting Spheres).

 

Czech National Symphony Orchestra - Thursday, 27 May 2027

The Czech National Symphony Orchestra returns with a celebration of Bohemian music, featuring Dvoƙák's uplifting Symphony No.8, Smetana's Vltava and Rachmaninov's much-loved Piano Concerto No.2.

 

Hallé Orchestra, Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus & Hallé Children’s Choir - Saturday, 19 June 2027

The season concludes with Carl Orff's spectacular Carmina Burana, one of the most thrilling choral works ever written. Performed by the Hallé Orchestra, Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus, Hallé Children's Choir and acclaimed soloists, this promises to be a fittingly epic finale.
