Heaven 17 Added to Tribute Concert Line Up

Sheffield synthpop band, Heaven 17 have confirmed they will be joining the line-up for the tribute concert in memory of former radio presenter Dave Kilner.

The trio of Martyn Ware, Ian Craig Marsh and Glenn Gregory, who formed from the remnants of The Human League in the early 1980s, will perform at Dave Kilner: A Night to Remember on Friday 30 April 2010.

The event, taking place at Sheffield City Hall, has been organised by Dave’s widow Shirley and his two daughters Rebecca and Nicola and will mark the launch of a new charity to help local disadvantaged children.

Heaven 17 join a host of other entertainment stars and bands linked to Sheffield who are set to play on the night. Names so far include Joe Elliot and Rick Savage from legendary rock group Def Leppard, Tony Christie, singer/songwriter John Parr of ‘St Elmo’ Fire’ fame and impressionist Jon Culshaw.

Heaven 17 were instrumental in the popularisation of electro music in the UK three decades ago and their debut album Penthouse and Pavement is still revered amongst the genre’s musicians. Organiser Shirley Kilner said:

“We are delighted that Heaven 17 have confirmed to play the show. It’s great that so many Sheffield stars want to get involved with the cause. We are currently talking to other big names from the city and are very confident of making further announcements in the coming weeks about additional acts joining the line-up.”

Born and bred in Sheffield, Dave Kilner was a well known radio presenter in the region who grew to become a local hero. Amongst side endeavors to Dave’s radio career, he was a prominent voice at Sheffield United, pantomime star and massively active in raising funds for local charities. With this in mind, Dave’s widow Shirley and his two daughters Rebecca and Nicola felt that organising this concert would be a fitting tribute to his legacy with all funds going towards a charity that has now been set up in his honour.

Gold, silver and bronze sponsorship packages are also now available for the concert. Anthony Hinchcliffe, of Ant Marketing, has become the first person to sign up for a package, sponsoring Def Leppard duo Joe Elliott and Rick Savage.  For more information about the packages please ring Shirley Kilner on 07507 600146.
