Croft House Operatic Society is bringing home the Sheffield premier of the musical version of The Full Monty this summer. Full Monty: The Musical will land at Sheffield City Hall for a week run of shows from Tuesday 17 August through to Saturday 21 August 2010.
Based on one of the most successful British films ever made, this exciting musical took Broadway by storm when it first opened in 2000. For the adaptation, the action has been transferred from Sheffield to Buffalo, New York, but the characters and storyline remain faithful to the original movie, as we follow six out-of-work and out-of-shape steelworkers as they attempt to transform their fortunes by becoming a team of male strippers.
First established back in 1902, Croft House have over 100 years experience in Musical Theatre and have seen many faces come and go over the years. One of those is that of the production’s Director, Adrian Allsop, who started his career at Croft House before his success as a director/choreographer took him to the West End and beyond. Adrian is going back to his roots to give something back to the society where he first realised his talent and make this one of the most memorable productions the society have ever produced.
Now Adrian is asking the general public to step forward as Croft House prepare to hold open auditions for the production on Sunday 25 April at the Park Library on Duke St, Sheffield. From 10am until 12 noon members of the general public are welcome to come down and have a go, with a chance of landing one of the starring roles.
On hopeful auditionees, Director Adrian said “I’m looking for strong personalities who are able to speak in an American accent. They should be out going and enthusiastic, but they also need to be able to sing to a high standard.
Anyone is welcome to come down and give it a go. See how you do, it wouldn't be the first time that a star has been plucked out of obscurity”
Men auditioning for any of the lead roles won’t be asked to bare all on this occasion, but if they’re talented enough to land a lead they might have to be daring enough to do so for the production!
