Festival fundraiser for Sheffield hospice

ST Luke’s Hospice Director of Fundraising and Communications Una Moran doesn’t usually wear gold wellies to work…but at the festival time of year she’ll make an exception!

Music fans at Sheffield International Venues (SIV) helped to raise almost £1,000 for the hospice after taking part in a Glastonbury competition.

And Una was on hand in her best festival gear to pick up a cheque from SIV chief executive Steve Brailey.

At SIV’s annual company conference, staff donated £10 each for the chance to win a pair of tickets to the festival, with all proceeds going towards St Luke’s.

The conference took place at SIV’s Sheffield City Hall where Jayne Keeble, who is based at Don Valley Stadium, was presented with the exclusive music prize.

St Luke’s is Sheffield’s only hospice and offers specialist end of life care free of charge to people across the city. Every year it cares for more than 1,400 patients and relies on the generosity of the people of Sheffield to help raise more than £4.5 million to remain open.

Handing over the cheque for £950, Steve Brailey said: “St Luke’s Hospice is a fantastic charity that supports so many people across Sheffield. We are delighted to have raised this total that will go towards ensuring the hospice team continues to provide excellent specialist care.

“As a leisure and entertainment company which operates two of the biggest music venues in the region, many of our employees were keen to get their hands on the festival tickets, ensuring we raised a significant amount of money for the hospice.”

SIV operates one of the largest concentrations of diverse elite and community sports and entertainment venues in Europe including Sheffield Arena, Ponds Forge International, the English Institute of Sport – Sheffield and Sheffield City Hall.

Una Moran commented: “The Glastonbury competition was a great way to raise money for St Luke’s and we are really grateful to all staff at SIV who bid for the tickets and helped to raise such a big total.

“The money will go towards funding care at our in-patient unit, Therapies and Rehabilitation Centre and in the community, which will benefit hundreds of patients and their families in the city.”
