BERLIOZ Overture: Béatrice et Bénédict
RAVEL Piano Concerto in G
BRAHMS Symphony No.1
‘Ticciati stirred the players to tenderness and a beautiful, liquid mobility in perfect harmony... Rattle is quite right: Ticciati is one to watch.’ The Times. The Scottish Chamber Orchestra’s new Principal Conductor leads the Hallé in Brahms’s thrilling First Symphony; written 20 years after its initial inspiration, its tremendous surging opening leads to insistent drum beats and stormy grandeur. Ravel’s jazzy Piano Concerto, a favourite with the composer himself, is filled with spark and vitality, from its whipcrack opening to its glittering finale. The concert begins with Berlioz’s bubbling Overture to Béatrice and Bénédict, reflecting the conflicts and ultimate reconciliation in Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing.
