Some of the most exciting young musicians from schools and organisations all over the city team together with Sheffield Music Service to celebrate the “National Year of Music”

Over 600 young musicians from across Sheffield will perform in this musical extravaganza.

The concert will include –

• A massed choir of 300 primary school children from the Hinde House and Firth Park families of schools

• Highly Strung (Music in the Round’s Youth String Orchestra)

• Concord all Stars (Community Marching Band)

• City of Sheffield Youth Festival Band

• The Big Bang African Drummers

• Chaucer and Fir Vale School Steel Pans

• Sheffield Music Academy choir in partnership with Secondary Schools

• Netherthorpe Primary School Wider Opportunities Group (Strings)

• Nethergreen Junior School Orchestra.

• Young musicians from Sheffield Music School

“Tune In - Year of Music is a new national project from the Department for Children, Schools and Families, aiming to encourage children and young people across England (from birth to nineteen) to take part in more music-related activities.

The year begins in September 2009 and will run throughout the academic year 2009/10.

This year-long commitment will help deliver on a vital element of The Children's Plan - the cultural offer. The Department for Children, Schools and Families has made a commitment to invest £330m between 2008 and 2011 to improve music opportunities for more children.

Taking part in music, whether singing, playing an instrument, writing lyrics, dancing or working behind the scenes can inspire creativity, improve concentration skills, encourage motivation, determination and build social skills, life skills, and confidence”

Concert starts 7pm.

Tickets £7, £5 (OAP, students), £1 (children under 16) may be subject to booking fees.
